Our Story
The story of Die Port van Cleve begins more than 150 years ago, with a young brewer named Gerard Heineken who met two clever businessmen, the Hulscher brothers. They had a great plan in mind, to open a beer house inside the brewery. After Heineken's approval, the Hulscher brothers embarked on this adventure and Die Port van Cleve was born....

Hotel Die Port van Cleve is ideally located in the city center of Amsterdam, right behind the Nieuwe Kerk on Dam Square and next to Magna Plaza. Many extraordinary sites that the city has to offer are within walking distance.
From our humble beginnings as a brewery in 1864 to becoming one of Amsterdam's most beloved hotels, Die Port van Cleve has been a witness to history, culture, and innovation. We look forward to welcoming you as our esteemed guest, and to experience the city in a historic way.
Renovating our hotel
Hotel Die Port van Cleve consists of six different historic buildings all connected to each other via our main corridor. The hotel rooms located on the front three buildings are undergoing a renovation which starts on November 11th on the 5th floor and will take place until mid-April 2025.
During this renovation, the main stairs, the elevator and all F&B outlets are open and available to our hotel guests. Our construction workers will only work from Monday to Friday, from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM.
